Doubt keeps our beginner’s mind shoes sparkling as we journey forward down the trail. To be content to live in mystery is a good thing, a skillful practice, if not easy or simple. Living with uncertainty is a close cousin, and offers its own unique form of freedom—complete with dead ends and disappointments and moments of awe and wonder.

of the mystery of being alive. I saw some of your material on a table at a Soularize event put on by Illuman, a men’s organization you may know of that began in New Mexico. I worked putting on the ritual in their rites of passage since its beginning in 1996. I’m glad I picked up your flier have have often listened to your deep reflections since. Thank you for your honesty and the wisdom you’ve gained from seeking to live your life authentically.

Sometime as I grew up I realized I often could see both sides of an issue, certainly not always, but it was often enough it made me fear I might just be a coward, hiding in my own confusion, afraid to take a stand. No doubt sometimes that was true as I struggled to come to terms with who I was becoming. But thank you for reframing this whole idea of doubt. It helps me understand the value of this part of myself, which can also become an intellectual honesty and a patience and fuller acceptance
